District 6 Competition

Dear HOSA Advisors in District 6,

The first quarter has ended and our next HOSA event will be the District 6 HOSA Competition which will be held at Gaston College in their new health sciences building on Saturday, January 21, 2012.   At the fall leadership meeting held in October,  advisors voted to pilot online testing for this competition.  This is very exciting but it does lead to some changes related to conference registration and the conference itself.  Also, because we are doing online testing, the registration date for this conference has been moved up to December 9th.

The week for the online testing portion of the competition will be December 12 -16th.   Each advisor will be responsible for creating their test schedule and notifying Edie Stewart.  She will coordinate the testing process with you and your proctor.  I have attached instructions related to the online registration process.  I practiced it yesterday and it is very simple.  When I receive the testing results, I will notify you if your student is in the top ten so that they may attend the conference to receive their award.  I will not tell you what place they have achieved.  I will also let you know if your HOSA Bowl and Creative Problem Teams have made it to the 2nd round.  Students that have already tested, may be asked to help at time keepers with some of the other events.    Please encourage your students to participate in the testing process at your school.  You never know you may have a diamond in the rough.

You will need to find another staff member in  your school to proctor the online tests.  Remember advisors and health science teachers may not be in the room during the testing process.

Please attach your online registration form to the regional registration form.  The fee for each student competing is $5.00.   Please make checks payable to District 6 HOSA and include with your registration.   With online testing, I need to received your registration by Friday, December 9th.  Please mail your registration forms and payment to :

Blue or Black Suits will be required for the sessions at State Competition in March and are strongly suggested for this event.  Since no skills are performed, there is no need for scrubs.  Remember no jeans or tennis shoes will be allowed.  Please do not put your students in an embarrassing situation.  Advisors are also expected to be in professional attire. Students will also need to bring a copy of their event guidelines.  For team events, only one copy will be needed.

Each advisor will be assigned a duty.  Thanks to those of you , who have already volunteered.  If you have any chaperones or parents who would be interested in judging events, please let me know and send me their contact information.
