SLC 2020 - Cancellation

Dear NC HOSA Advisors, Members, Parents, and Supporters,

The NC HOSA State Leadership Conference scheduled for April 1 – 4, 2020 is canceled.

As you now know, Governor Roy Cooper issued a state of emergency early last week due to the coronavirus. The Governor also issued an executive order on March 14, 2020, which closes all K-12 schools for a minimum of 2 weeks and  cancels of mass gatherings.  In addition, the CDC now recommends cancellation of all mass gatherings of 50 people or more for the next 8 weeks.

NC HOSA is a nonprofit Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that serves over 9,000 members.  Substantial expenses and time have already been invested to plan and contract for the state leadership conference with over 2700 registered.  Once the budget has been analyzed for the costs NC HOSA is unable to refund, the board of directors will be sending out information regarding any available refunds from registration. Please be patient as NC HOSA works through all issues related to canceling conference.

NC HOSA is working with the National organization regarding a virtual option for SLC, which cannot occur until after schools return to session.  A virtual SLC will be fluid and more information will be provided as the changes for school systems related to coronavirus are updated.

There is no need to call the hotels in Charlotte.  NC HOSA has been and continues to be in communication with the hotels and convention center.  All hotel rooms in the NC HOSA block are in the process of being canceled.  If you booked rooms outside of our room block, you will need to take care of your own reservations.  Any deposits or full room payments sent in will be refunded by the hotels.  Please be patient as the process may take some time.

The decision to cancel had to be made; however, the decision was made with a heavy heart.  We are deeply disappointed for our state officer team, seniors, and student members as a whole.  We know SLC is one of the highlights of the school year for all.  We will miss seeing everyone.
